Autumn 2022 |
As part of the NOAA Hollings Scholarship Program, I got to attend two conferences/meetings to present my summer research. Before the start of the quarter, I visited Miami to present at the Marine Biodiversity Observation Network (MBON) meeting! It was great meeting so many people and learning about what goes on behind the scenes at MBON.
In addition, I attended the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting this December and presented at a poster session. This was also an amazing networking opportunity, and I had so much fun learning more about current research in ocean sciences and biogeosciences. I truly enjoyed exploring Chicago and making new friends!
This quarter, I took an honors course called "Storytelling in the Sciences", and I cannot recommend this class enough! I not only enjoyed it and looked forward to it each week, but it taught me so many important skills that I can bring forward into my research presentations in the future. After taking this course, I feel significantly more confident in my presenting and storytelling skills, and presenting has become so much more fun and enjoyable for me. I did my first presentation on courtship displays in blue-capped cordon-bleus, and I've attached the presentation below!
Lastly, this quarter, I auditioned for and joined Traditional Chinese Dance @ UW! I've loved dancing since I was young, and I am very excited to learn traditional Chinese dance and perform for others next quarter. It's also been splendid getting to know the wonderful group of dancers in the RSO!
