Spring 2021This quarter, I was a research assistant for Paige Wilson, a graduate student in the Earth and Space Sciences (ESS) department. I processed and measured leaf fossils from the Cretaceous-Paleogene Boundary in order to understand the climate during that time. It was a great experience that allowed me to dip my toes into research, and I thought it was cool being able to do it in a remote setting. Depicted here is an example of what a fossil "sample" looked like after editing! The next steps would be processing and measuring the image!

One of the classes I took this spring was OCEAN 409: Marine Pollution. I enjoyed this class for a multitude of reasons! Marine pollution is something that I've always been immensely interested in, and through this course I was able to learn about new topics in the subject that I had never heard of before. The class allowed me to discover my immense interest in persistent and emerging organic pollutants, and helped me realize that I might want to research them in my future career! During the course, we often had the opportunity to make memes about the type of marine pollution we were studying for that unit. Here I've included my meme about light pollution!

This quarter, I also completed the honors organic chemistry lecture and lab series! It was definitely very challenging at times, but I found organic chemistry super interesting (and also pretty fun!) and it was great meeting and getting to know my classmates.
